HIP HOP THEATRE INITIATIVE WEBSITE LAUNCHES!!!

HHTI.org is the cyber home to the work that the
Hip Hop Theatre Initiative has undertaken since 2004.

Daniel Banks, Founder and Director of the Hip Hop Theatre Initiative, says: “The launch of this website makes it possible for groups around the world with whom we have worked to meet virtually, share their work, discuss current projects, and support each other. It’s a global cipher of folks exploring and creating Hip Hop Theatre.”

In addition to media from HHTI’s workshops and productions, and conferences and events featuring HHTI’s work, this site will connect practitioners of Hip Hop Theatre and other Hip Hop arts from around the world.

SAY WORD!: VOICES FROM HIP HOP THEATER, AN ANTHOLOGY EDITED AND WITH CRITICAL COMMENTARY BY DANIEL BANKS, LAUNCHED SUMMER OF 2011!

Say Word!
SAY WORD! Voices from Hip Hop Theater is the first ever critical anthology of Hip Hop Theatre plays: a vibrant showcase of the global, multi-ethnic grassroots culture that is committed to social justice and self-expression through performance.

Hip Hop Theatre is the theatre of now. In this groundbreaking book, editor Daniel Banks collects nine pieces (eight in print, and one multi-media piece online) by contemporary artists who confront today’s issues: from racial profiling and police brutality; to women’s empowerment and the commercial exploitation of Hip Hop; to identity politics.

SAY WORD! is a window to this explosive genre. Through this collection of dynamic, emotive, and often radical texts, readers will see themselves — and, perhaps more importantly, will more clearly see the people around them.
